Leaps & Turns/ Technique
Leaps & Turns is a technique class focusing on various jumps, leaps, and turns. Classes will start with a warm-up, which will consist of stretching and conditioning followed by center work and across the floor progressions.
Jazz classes are fun and energetic. They include such elements as kicks, leaps, turns, splits, and isolations. Classes include stretch and strengthening exercises, floor work, and across the floor progressions in addition to center floor combinations. Blending musical theatre/broadway-style with jazz will allow dancers to explore how to emote and act through dance and movement to tell a story.
Lyrical is a style of dance that uses the emotion and mood of the music to elicit movements from the dancers. Students have a warm up focusing on core strength and flexibility. Contemporary is an expressive style of dance that combines elements of modern, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid movements. The class includes floor work, progressions, and center combinations.
Students may wear any type of dance attire and nude pirouettes for shoes. Hair should be secure and off of the face.
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.
Tap is a style involving rhythm, dynamics, and varying sounds. Tappers will have a graduated warm-up to loosen their ankles and knees for proper execution of skills, across the floor progressions and have center floor work to learn and perfect new skills. Dancers will learn a range of tap styles from musical theatre/broadway to rhythm, jazz tap.
* wings, pullbacks, time steps are prerequisites
Student Choreography will put the dancers in their teacher's shoes as they become the visionaries, creators, and collaborators of their dances. This class will allow dancers to explore the tools used to create choreography. They will focus on various elements that make up the craft of choreography such as counts, creativity, formations, movement, emotion, and more.
